If you want to know why I didn’t lump the tag in with the bridge here for a tidy eight bars, I’ll tell you. Firstly, it just feels to me like 1+7. And secondly, the chord loop established at the start of the bridge (after the little rest) is repeated without its established fourth chord, making a kind of sneakily soon II-to-ii chord transition to the chorus. Neat. The outro is just a hold on the vi chord, proving once again that modern pop often refuses to end songs on the tonic like you’re supposed to.
We’ll keep it in the family again with the second release in Ashikawa’s “Wave Notation” series, his own album, Still Way. This record actually features Midori Takada on harp and vibraphone. Ashikawa only released three records in this series before he died; the third was a full LP of pensive Erik Satie pieces played on solo piano by Satsuki Shibano.

Door splits are pretty simple, I typically give the headliner 75% if there is only one opener, and 60% if there are two. Guarantees can be a bit more tricky. You’ll need to be pretty confident about a band’s past numbers in order to make sure you’re not left paying more than you earn at the door. Their booking agent should be able to give you an estimate of what they bring in locally, and so should the venue representative if they’ve worked with them before. But remember that marketing and promotion can also play a huge role in getting your numbers up (so we’ll cover that one below!).

There are often structural details that aren’t immediately obvious, so it’s worth taking some time with this and thinking about a song from as many angles as possible. You can get as detailed as you’d like, but here are some things we recommend looking at to get started:
You may already be familiar with the process of mixing. If you’re reading this article, then it’s likely you are at least aware that live performances use sound mixing boards to balance out the volume levels, panning, and EQ of each instrument and microphone line to ensure the performance sounds properly balanced. You may also be familiar with studio-based mixing practices, which incorporates what I just mentioned, but also includes effects processing like reverb, chorus, delay, saturation, and auto-tune, which can be applied to individual tracks or the mix at large.
